Hmmm. Let me back things up 2 weeks, and we will start from there. Over the last few days I have been meaning to sit down and blog, but every time I do there seems to be something more important that needs to be done.
Anyway, the last week of May was the craziest for us. Buying a house and moving to another city is busy enough. Try throwing a medical school graduation (including a week of parties) into the mix. Very rough! The Wednesday before graduation was Matt's coat burning ceremony. This is a tradition held my the 4th year medical students each year. The party was at one of his classmates houses, and was lots of fun. I have some good pics that I plan on posting. I actually tried to post some pics a second ago but the "blogger upload" was not letting me. (Will try again later.) In between the partying, we spent most afternoons/evenings packing boxes. All because the movers were to come the Friday before graduation.
OK. Let's fast-forward to Friday morning. I had to take off a full day of work last minute because there was no way everything was going to get finished. The movers had called the night before to tell me they were coming at 10 am. Needless to say, they showed up about 12:30 pm. Instead of two, they brought 5. (Trying to compensate for being several hours late.) The truck was loaded by mid afternoon which was about the time Matt returned from graduation practice.
Matt's parents showed up shortly after. (They were staying in our guest room. However, on an air mattress.) Remember, the U-Haul truck was already packed with the majority of our belongings. Mom and Dad also showed up after awhile. We all got dressed just in time for the graduation cocktail party at the University Club in downtown Shreveport. We had a great time at this event, and even decided to take everyone to Superior Steakhouse for drinks afterwards.
Saturday morning we woke up to some bad news. One of Matt's grandparents (who had come into town the night before for graduation) was having chest pain. 911 was called and he was taken to Schumpert shortly before the ceremony. Unfortunately, his grandmother and uncle were at the hospital and had to miss graduation as well. His diagnosis was blot clots or "PEs" in the lungs. The following week he was discharged and able to return home to Rayville.
Graduation itself was rather uneventful. Rachel and Josh came into town, and so did several of Matt's other relatives. We had lunch at Wine Country which was very nice. We came home (to our empty condo) just in time to pack some of the fragile/valuables that I had not let the movers touch. We did this up until time for the "graduation after-party" which was held at one of the old renovated theaters downtown. We called it an early night because the plan was to leave for Jackson at 8 am the following morning. 8 am turned into more like 9 am....but that was ok.
The move itself wasn't too painful. Both sets of parents along with Jill helped us unload the truck. After about 3-4 hours everything was in the house. Then we had to start unpacking. Everyone left after a bit, and Matt and I unpacked for basically the next 5 days. One of the more stressful parts was that we did not have our cable/internet set up at this time. So unpacking itself was rather silent..which made it a little stressful.
Oh yeah. I forgot to mention that the Tuesday after Memorial Day we headed back to Shreveport so I could officially resign from my job. Lots of paperwork, and a little sad, too.
So, this basically leads us up to the present. Most days now are filled with chores, errands, and small projects. The house is almost complete. (Not really - Just as complete as it is going to be until we have $ steadily coming in again.) :) Please let us know if you are in the area. We love guests and how have plenty of room for visitors.
Will be back soon with pictures to go along with the stories from above. Have a great Tuesday!
Great post! Can't wait to see pics of the finished house!
